Nobody ever really talks much about the Virgin Mary. She gets prayed to a lot, sure, but I’m not too interested in her story. From the way I heard it as a kid, I see her as too much of a secondary character. Was she gluten intolerant? Did she have any particular mental hang-ups? Did she have one arm shorter than the other? So one day, I started imagining a Virgin Mary who loved herself so much that she managed to create a pregnancy all on her own. The true and pure champion of independence, who could’ve had another story, where the focus of her life was always her, and her alone. But nope, someone else ended up taking the spotlight in the end.
